How Borussia Dortmund could line up under Marco Rose this season

Borussia Dortmund’s attacking combinations will also depend on the formation Marco Rose goes with, and will likely change from game to game.

No matter what the formation though, Marco Reus will be one of the first names on the team-sheet. The Borussia Dortmund captain looks refreshed and raring to go heading into the new season. He will feature in the number eight/ten role that will allow him to be heavily involved in the attacking play.

Following the exit of Jadon Sancho, the BVB bosses moved quickly to sign Donyell Malen. The Netherlands international is a very different player to Sancho. But he has all the attributes to succeed at Borussia Dortmund. It will be interesting to see how and in what role Marco Rose uses him. Malen likes to play in a two-striker system, but he could also start out wide and drift into central positions.

Leading the line for Borussia Dortmund will be Erling Haaland. The Norwegian international has been scoring goals for fun since making the switch to Germany. And he should get a lot of service from those behind him, as he looks to better last season’s tally of 41 goals.

Borussia Dortmund have no shortage of options for the fourth attacking spot, with the likes of Gio Reyna, Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard, Youssoufa Moukoko and Ansgar Knauff all competing for places. Which player gets the nod will likely depend on the tactical system Marco Rose uses for that specific game.
