Second COVID-19 case at Borussia Dortmund as Julian Brandt tests positive

2Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in quarantine. 

Borussia Dortmund have announced that Julian Brandt has returned a positive COVID-19 test and has gone into self-isolation. The news comes just hours after it was revealed that Thomas Meunier has tested positive for COVID-19. Tuesday’s public training session, that was due to be held at the club’s training ground in front of 300 supporters, had to be canceled at a short notice as a result.

Borussia Dortmund are due to take on third division side SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Saturday. The game is not under doubt as of this moment. The BVB players took part in a training session behind closed doors on Tuesday after receiving the go ahead from the local health department.

The Black and Yellows have confirmed that they are in close contact with the local health department, and that they have tightened their precautionary measures once again.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bayern Munich’s DFB-Pokal first round tie against Bremer SV was postponed due to COVID-19. The entire Bremer SV team was told to go into quarantine after positive COVID-19 tests at the club.

Brandt testing positive for COVID-19 is another big blow for Borussia Dortmund, who are facing a bit of an injury crisis at the moment. Mats Hummels, Raphael Guerreiro, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Soumaila Coulibaly, Nnamdi Collins, Emre Can and Marius Wolf are all dealing with injuries going into the new season. While a number of players have only just arrived from their post Euro 2020 breaks.
