Borussia Dortmund begin their Bundesliga campaign at home to Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend. Ahead of the eagerly awaited contest, we take a look at some key battles that could influence the result.

Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt face off at the Signal Iduna Park this weekend as the new Bundesliga season gets underway. Games between these two teams are often hard fought contests. And Saturday’s game should be no different. Here are three key battles that could be crucial in deciding the outcome of the game.

Erling Haaland vs Martin Hinteregger

Erling Haaland goes into the game on the back of an impressive hat-trick against SV Wehen Wiesbaden last weekend. While Martin Hinteregger was sent off as Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a shock defeat in their DFB-Pokal first round tie. Nevertheless, the battle between these two on Saturday should be an intriguing and possibly decisive one.

Eintracht Frankfurt are expected to line up with a back three, while Borussia Dortmund will likely go with the diamond formation. Starting in the middle of Eintracht’s back three will be Martin Hinteregger, and he will have a key role to play in their efforts to stop Erling Haaland.

The tough tackling centre-back is one of Eintracht Frankfurt’s most consistent players and their leader in defence. But stopping Haaland will not be an easy task, even for him.

Haaland’s hat-trick against SV Wehen Wiesbaden helped him take his tally to 60 goals in just 60 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. And he will be determined to begin his Bundesliga campaign with a goal this weekend.
