Borussia Dortmund II held to goalless draw by 1. FC Saarbrücken
Borussia Dortmund II continued their unbeaten start to the season on Saturday, as they were held to a goalless draw by 1. FC Saarbrücken.
Borussia Dortmund II returned to 3. Liga action on Saturday, looking to build on what has been an excellent start to the season. Enrico Maaßen’s side were boosted by the returns of Steffen Tigges, Antonios Papadopoulos and Ansgar Knauff. While Niklas Dams also returned to the starting XI after missing the last two games through suspension.
Borussia Dortmund II made a strong start to the game and showed great attacking intent early on. Steffen Tigges hit the post and then fired an effort over the bar from a tight angle. Despite BVB II’s dominance, the two teams went into the break with no goals to separate them.
Borussia Dortmund II continued to dominate proceedings in the second half, but Saarbrücken defended with great resilience to keep their clean sheet. The Black and Yellows weren’t able to find a breakthrough and had to settle for a point in the end.
The result keeps the Borussia Dortmund U-23s in third place in the 3. Liga standings, with eight points to their name after four games. They are two points behind league leaders 1. FC Magdeburg, who beat MSV Duisburg 2-1 on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund II will be back in action on Wednesday evening. They go up against VfL Osnabrück, who were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga last season. Osnabrück, who earned a shock win over Werder Bremen in the first round of the DFB-Pokal earlier this month, will certainly offer a tough test to the BVB U-23s.
