Borussia Dortmund: Gio Reyna expected to miss Bayer Leverkusen clash
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will likely have to make do without Gio Reyna for this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen after he suffered a muscle injury while on international duty.
Gio Reyna suffered a hamstring injury while playing for the United States last week. And it looks like the injury will force him to miss this weekend’s game against Bayer Leverkusen. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, it is certain that the Leverkusen game will come too early for the Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder. The newspaper adds that final examinations of Reyna’s injury are still pending.
Reyna has started all five of Borussia Dortmund’s games so far this season. So his absence would certainly be a big blow to the Black and Yellows’ hopes of beating the in-form Bayer Leverkusen.
While Reyna looks set to miss this weekend’s crunch clash against Bayer Leverkusen, Marco Reus will likely be available. Sebastian Kehl is quoted by Ruhr Nachrichten as saying that Borussia Dortmund are confident of having Reus in the squad on Saturday. The 32 year old suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Germany, and missed their game against Iceland on Wednesday as a result.
Thomas Meunier is another player who returned to Dortmund early from international duty. Ruhr Nachrichten report that he trained individually on Wednesday, which means that there is a chance he could be fit to feature against Bayer Leverkusen.
Borussia Dortmund will also be hoping to have Mats Hummels back in the starting XI against Bayer Leverkusen. The centre-back made his return to team training on Tuesday after overcoming his knee injury.
