Michael Zorc has hit back at Hasan Salihamidzic after the Bayern Munich sporting director criticised Marco Reus for leaving the Germany national team early due to a knee injury.

Hasan Salihamidzic was critical of Marco Reus’ decision to leave the Germany camp early after he suffered a knee injury. The Bayern Munich sporting director criticised the Borussia Dortmund captain on Sunday. He questioned how Reus was injured for the game against Iceland, but recovered in time to play 90 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen.

Salihamidzic also added that the Bayern Munich players always stay and take part in games for their national teams. But he conveniently forgot about the fact that Thomas Müller left the Germany camp early with a reported injury and was in the Bayern Munich starting XI against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

"“I think it’s quite surprising that Marco Reus left the national team and then played again a few days later,” Salihamidzic said on Sky90. “Our players stay and play. It’s not the first time either. If you’re injured, fine, drop out. But otherwise… Serge Gnabry had back problems, stayed there, and now he’s injured.”"

Michael Zorc pulled no punches when asked to respond to Salihamidzic’s comments. The Borussia Dortmund sporting director said that his Bayern Munich counterpart should focus on matters concerning Bayern Munich instead of talking about the Black and Yellows.

"“Salihamidzic should keep his mouth shut on issues that concern us and comment on the topics at Bayern Munich,” Zorc said. “Who does he actually think he is?”"

Marco Reus missed Germany’s game against Iceland with a knee injury, and Hansi Flick even gave a detailed account of his injury when he announced the news. The former Bayern Munich head coach confirmed that Reus’ injury is not a serious one, and even hinted that he could be fit again in time for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Perhaps Salihamidzic should have contacted his former colleague to get the full information on Reus’ injury before commenting on it.
