Borussia Dortmund: Thorgan Hazard back in training, Julian Brandt a doubt for Union Berlin clash
Thorgan Hazard made his return to team training on Thursday and could be in the squad for Borussia Dortmund’s game against Union Berlin this weekend. While Julian Brandt is a doubt after suffering a muscle injury.
There is mixed news on the injury front for Borussia Dortmund ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga clash at home to Union Berlin.
Thorgan Hazard has overcome his ankle injury and took part in team training on Thursday. The Belgian international suffered his injury during the win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month, and hasn’t played since. His return will certainly be a welcome boost for Borussia Dortmund.
In more positive news, Mats Hummels has been given the all-clear after he was substituted in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Besiktas JK. Hummels was replaced by Marin Pongracic in the 68th minute. But Sebastian Kehl told DAZN after the game that there is no injury, and Hummels was taken off because he was exhausted.
Hummels was making his first start of the season after recovering from his patellar tendon injury that also affected him at the Euros. So it is no surprise that he is not ready to play 90 minutes just yet.
Julian Brandt also had to be substituted in the game against Besiktas on Wednesday. He was replaced by Axel Witsel at half time due to muscle problems. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the playmaker underwent further examinations at Borussia Dortmund’s training ground on Thursday. And it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to play against Union Berlin this weekend.
