Julian Brandt’s injury means that Marco Rose does not have too many options to choose from in midfield. So we will see Axel Witsel come into the team in place of Brandt.
Witsel’s introduction in defensive midfield will allow Mahmoud Dahoud to play further forward and make more of an impact in the attacking play.
Jude Bellingham has enjoyed a stunning start to the season and goes into the game on the back of his man of the match performance against Besiktas. He will again be crucial on Sunday, as Borussia Dortmund look to get their breakthrough against the resilient Union Berlin defence.
Marius Wolf could also be an option off the bench should Rose decide to go with a more attack-minded team in the second half. He has come off the bench to replace Bellingham in the last few games, and has hardly put a foot wrong.
