Erling Haaland and Marco Reus face a race against time to be fit for Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting CP on Tuesday.
Erling Haaland (muscle) and Marco Reus (knee) both suffered injuries during Friday’s training session, forcing them to miss Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Marco Rose said during his pre-match press conference that both players are doubts for the game against Sporting CP on Tuesday.
"“For Erling Haaland and Marco Reus we have to wait until final training, it will be tight,” Rose said."
Reus took part in the final training session before the game. So the chances are good that he will at least be on the bench on Tuesday evening. Haaland, on the other hand, did not take part in the training session on Monday. And he will likely miss the game against Sporting CP as a result.
Julian Brandt also took part in team training on Monday. The playmaker has recovered from his muscle injury and could be an option for Tuesday’s game.
Haaland, Reus and Brandt were sorely missed on Saturday as Borussia Dortmund failed to register a single shot on target during their defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko started up front, but weren’t able to make the desired impact on the game. The Black and Yellows’ hopes of getting the three points were further dashed due to Mahmoud Dahoud’s sending off.
Borussia Dortmund began their Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 win against Besiktas two weeks ago. If they manage to beat Sporting CP on Tuesday, Marco Rose’s side will be in a great position to qualify for the round of 16.
