Borussia Dortmund: Gregor Kobel pulls out of Switzerland squad due to a knee injury
Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has pulled out of the Switzerland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a knee injury.
The Switzerland national team announced on Monday that Gregor Kobel has withdrawn from the squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Lithuania due to knee problems. The Borussia Dortmund shot stopper will instead stay in Germany to work on his rehab, but reports say that he is not expected to be out for a long period.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund do not expect Kobel to be out for a long time. As of now, the goalkeeper is not considered a doubt for the Black and Yellows’ Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05 in two weeks’ time.
Kobel has started all 11 of Borussia Dortmund’s games since his summer move from VfB Stuttgart. The 23 year old has quickly become an important part of the team and has earned a lot of praise for his all-round play. And with several key games coming up this month, the hope will be that he can return to full fitness before long.
In addition to Kobel, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna have also not traveled to their national teams. Haaland is currently out with a thigh injury, while Bellingham has been given a break, and Reyna is not yet fit after suffering a hamstring injury on international duty last month.
Borussia Dortmund are due to play a friendly match against second division side SC Paderborn on Thursday at the club’s training ground.
