Borussia Dortmund injury update: Gio Reyna edging closer to return from injury
Gio Reyna is edging closer to his return from injury after spending more than a month out on the sidelines. Although it remains to be seen if he will be fit for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05 next weekend.
Gio Reyna suffered a torn muscle fibre while on international duty with the United States last month, and has been out of action ever since. Now it looks like he is finally edging closer to his return for Borussia Dortmund.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten and Kicker, Gio Reyna is making good progress. But because he hasn’t played or trained in more than a month, he will have to play catch-up in training to get back to full fitness. So at the moment, he remains a doubt for Borussia Dortmund’s next Bundesliga game (against Mainz 05 on October 16). Even if he misses the game against Mainz, it is likely that he will be back in the squad in the near future.
Reyna has scored two goals in three Bundesliga games this season. So his impending return will no doubt be a welcome boost for Borussia Dortmund, who have struggled to find the net in recent games.
The newspaper also adds that Thorgan Hazard has been given the all clear despite withdrawing from the Belgium squad earlier this week due to an ankle injury. The Borussia Dortmund winger had only just made his return to action after more than a month out with an ankle injury. So him getting the all clear will be a big relief for both the player and the club.
Erling Haaland is also working on his comeback. The hope is that he will be fit for the game against Mainz 05.
