Players to Watch

With Erling Haaland injured, Donyell Malen will start up front for Borussia Dortmund. The Netherlands international has endured a difficult start to life in Germany. But he is expected to start as the main striker in the next few games, and hopefully that will give him the chance to find some goals and confidence.

Marco Reus will also be crucial for Borussia Dortmund as they look to get the three points against Arminia Bielefeld. He had a night to forget in Amsterdam on Tuesday and will be aiming to lead the Black and Yellows to victory this weekend.

Arminia Bielefeld may not have the strongest squad on paper. But they do have a number of talented players in their ranks. Amos Pieper is one player who will be keen on making an impact on Saturday. The defender joined Arminia Bielefeld from Borussia Dortmund II in 2019 and has been a regular starter for them since. Pieper’s battle against Donyell Malen could be a decisive one, and the 23 year old will be aiming to show his quality against his former club.

One of Fabian Klos and Janni Serra will lead the line for Arminia Bielefeld. And whoever starts up front will be looking to take advantage of Borussia Dortmund’s uncertainty at the back.

Previous Meeting: Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Arminia Bielefeld

These two sides last met in February and it was Borussia Dortmund who came out on top, earning a 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld. Mahmoud Dahoud opened the scoring for the Black and Yellows, before Jadon Sancho made it 2-0 from the penalty spot. Reinier then came off the bench and scored his first ever BVB goal to seal the win.

Mats Hummels was on target in the reverse fixture, as his brace led Borussia Dortmund to a 2-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld at the Schüco Arena in October 2020.
