Borussia Dortmund to face FC St. Pauli in the third round of the DFB-Pokal

The draw for the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal has been made and Borussia Dortmund will go up against 2. Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli. 

Borussia Dortmund have been handed a tricky draw in the third round of the DFB-Pokal. Marco Rose’s side will make the trip to the Millerntor Stadion to take on 2. Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli. The tie will take place on 18–19 January, 2022.

Borussia Dortmund saw off the challenge of FC Ingolstadt in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, claiming a 2-0 win courtesy of a brace from Thorgan Hazard. And they will be aiming to continue their Pokal defence with a comfortable win over St. Pauli when the two sides meet in January.

We could be in for a very intriguing tie between Borussia Dortmund and St. Pauli. The Hamburg based side are enjoying an impressive season in the 2. Bundesliga, and currently find themselves at the top of the standings. They eliminated Magdeburg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, and defeated Dynamo Dresden in the second round earlier this week.

Borussia Dortmund and St. Pauli have faced each other 21 times in the past. The Black and Yellows have won 15 and lost just two of those games.

The DFB-Pokal round of 16 draw delivered some very exciting match-ups. Local rivals Hertha Berlin and Union Berlin will face off in the Berlin derby, while SC Freiburg will make the trip to TSG Hoffenheim. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reward for eliminating Bayern Munich is a trip to Hannover 96. And RB Leipzig will host second division side Hansa Rostock.
