Second division side SSV Jahn Regensburg made an approach to sign Erling Haaland on loan soon after his move to RB Salzburg, managing director Christian Keller has revealed.

Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world of football and is coveted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. But the Borussia Dortmund striker was once a transfer target for 2. Bundesliga side SSV Jahn Regensburg, and they even made an approach to sign him on a loan deal.

SSV Jahn Regensburg managing director Christian Keller has revealed that he made an attempt to sign Erling Haaland on loan from RB Salzburg, soon after the striker joined the Austrian side from Molde FK. Keller added that the RB Salzburg manager laughed out loud in response to his query.

"“We were scouting in Austria,” Keller told the Mittelbayerischen Zeitung (H/T: Kicker). “We saw Haaland in one of his first games after he moved to Salzburg. I then took the liberty of calling the club manager to see if Haaland might be available for a loan. He then laughed out loud. But it was worth a try.”"

Haaland made the switch to RB Salzburg from Molde FK in January 2019. It was in Austria where the striker burst onto the scene and showcased his quality on the UEFA Champions League stage. One year after his move to Salzburg, the Norwegian international joined Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of 20 million euros. The Black and Yellows beat out competition from the likes of Manchester United, RB Leipzig and Juventus for his signature.
