Former Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Stefan Effenberg believes that both Denis Zakaria and Matthias Ginter will end up joining Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Mönchengladbach duo Denis Zakaria and Matthias Ginter are both facing uncertain futures, with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season. Gladbach are reportedly keen on extending the duo’s contracts, but they are also attracting interest from other clubs. And Stefan Effenberg believes that both Zakaria and Ginter will end up joining Borussia Dortmund.

In his column for t-online.de, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder wrote:

"“The contracts of Matthias Ginter and Denis Zakaria are set to expire in the summer. I think that in the end both will move to Dortmund.”"

Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with a move for Denis Zakaria in recent months. The BVB bosses reportedly see the Swiss international as the perfect long-term replacement for Axel Witsel, who will also be out of contract in the summer. The 25 year old is also attracting the interest of a number of other clubs, including Juventus, Liverpool, FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.

Borussia Dortmund have not been linked with a move for Matthias Ginter yet. But the central defender did spend three years with the Black and Yellows before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017. Both Ginter and Zakaria also spent two years playing under Marco Rose, before the 45 year old moved to Dortmund in the summer.

It remains to be seen if there is any substance to Effenberg’s comments. But Borussia Dortmund are looking to bolster their defence and midfield. And Zakaria and Ginter would certainly add a lot of quality to the squad should BVB decide to make a move for them.
