Borussia Dortmund 2021/22 hinrunde player ratings: Forwards
By Tushar Bahl
Marco Reus (7/10)
Borussia Dortmund’s poor hinrunde meant that Marco Reus’ performances went slightly under the radar. The BVB captain delivered several world class displays for his side and ended the first half of the season with eight goals and ten assists to his name in just 25 appearances across all competitions.
There were a few games where Reus failed to make much of an impact. And he was also guilty of missing several big chances over the course of the hinrunde. But overall, he was one of the team’s top performers in the majority of the games.
Donyell Malen (5.5/10)
Expectations were very high when Donyell Malen joined Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in the summer. But it took him a while to get going, and he had to wait until November to open his account in the Bundesliga. The Netherlands international struggled with fitness problems at the start of his BVB career, and Marco Rose also wanted to see more defensive discipline from him.
But he did find a bit of form towards the end of the year, notching up five goals in his last seven appearances of the season. Hopefully, it is a sign of things to come because Malen certainly has all the tools to succeed at Borussia Dortmund.
