Report: Borussia Dortmund in pole position to sign Denis Zakaria
By Tushar Bahl
Denis Zakaria is set to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer at the latest. And Borussia Dortmund appear to be the favourites for his signature.
Borussia Mönchengladbach made it official earlier this week that Denis Zakaria will not be extending his contract with the club. With his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, he will leave the Foals either in January or on a free transfer in the summer. According to Sky Sport, Borussia Dortmund are the favourites in the race for his signature.
In addition to the Black and Yellows, Juventus, AS Roma, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for Zakaria in recent weeks. Sky claim that the 25 year old’s representatives do not want to announce a commitment yet as they are still in talks with English Premier League clubs. But the chances are good that Zakaria will be playing for Borussia Dortmund by next season at the latest.
Borussia Dortmund want to sign Zakaria as a replacement for Axel Witsel, who will also be out of contract in the summer. The chances are high that the Belgian international will leave BVB at the end of the season.
BILD reported earlier this week that Borussia Mönchengladbach would like to sell Zakaria in the January transfer window in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer. But it will be interesting to see if Dortmund would be willing to pay a transfer fee for the Switzerland international, with just six months left on his contract.
