Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki reportedly attracting interest from France
Out of favour Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki could be on his way to France, with reports claiming that AS Saint-Etienne are interested in signing him this month.
Roman Bürki lost his spot as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice goalkeeper last year and his last appearance came all the way back in May. The BVB bosses were keen on selling him in the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise. The hope is that he will now leave the club this month, and French Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne are reportedly interested in signing him.
This is being reported by Sky Sport, who add that Saint-Etienne would like to sign Bürki on a loan deal. But Borussia Dortmund are looking to sell him so they can shed his salary from the club’s wage bill. The report adds that the two clubs will hold further talks in the coming days to see if an agreement can be reached.
AS Saint-Etienne currently find themselves at the bottom of the Ligue 1 standings, and their first-choice goalkeeper Etienne Green is sidelined with an injury.
Marco Rose said in November that he hopes Roman Bürki can find a new club very soon where he will get the chance to play. The Borussia Dortmund head coach also praised 31 year old for the professionalism he has shown in training despite falling behind both Gregor Kobel and Marwin Hitz in the pecking order.
Bürki still has 18 months left on his Borussia Dortmund contract. And it will be interesting to see if the two parties can find a solution regarding his future in the coming weeks.
