Borussia Dortmund winger Ansgar Knauff joins Eintracht Frankfurt on 18 month loan deal
Borussia Dortmund youngster Ansgar Knauff has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Ansgar Knauff has completed a loan move away from Borussia Dortmund, joining Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of next season. The Black and Yellows have confirmed that no purchase option has been included in the loan deal. Sebastian Kehl hopes that the loan move will give the 20 year old the chance to get more playing time and develop further.
Knauff made his first-team breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of last season, and scored a stunning winner in the 3-2 win over Stuttgart in April. But he has found playing time hard to come by under Marco Rose so far this season, and has been limited to just nine substitute appearances for the first-team.
Knauff has also made eight appearances for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s in the 3. Liga this season, scoring one goal.
Knauff had offers to leave Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal in the summer as well, but he ended up staying. Now he has decided to go out on loan in search of regular first-team football. The hope will be that he can get regular playing time at Eintracht Frankfurt, who are competing in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League this season.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Germany U-21s international who certainly has the potential to play regularly in the Bundesliga. Knauff is primarily a winger but can also play as a wing-back.
