Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki set for Galatasaray move
Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki is on the verge of completing a move to Galatasaray, the president of the Turkish club has confirmed.
Having lost his spot as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, Roman Bürki has been free to leave the club for more than six months now. The Swiss shot-stopper failed to attract any concrete offers in the summer transfer window. But it appears as though he has finally found a new club.
Reports in Turkey claimed on Friday morning that Bürki was closing in on a loan move to Galatasaray. The reports were initially denied by Ruhr Nachrichten and Blick. But the Turkish club’s president has now confirmed that they have reached an agreement with the goalkeeper. The 31 year old is expected to join Galatasaray on loan until the end of the season.
“We have reached an agreement with the player’s side for Roman Bürki,” Galatasaray president Burak Elmas said on Friday during a virtual meeting with the club’s members. “With his club, we are still working out the details.”
Bürki hasn’t featured or even been on the bench for Borussia Dortmund since May and finds himself behind both Gregor Kobel and Marwin Hitz in the pecking order for goalkeepers. His last appearance for the club came on the final day of last season in the 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Marco Rose praised Bürki in November for the professionalism he has shown in training this season despite losing his spot as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Bürki, who joined Borussia Dortmund in 2015, has made a total of 232 appearances for the club. He has kept 83 clean sheets across all competitions for the Black and Yellows. The former SC Freiburg goalkeeper still has 18 months left on his current BVB contract.
