Borussia Dortmund U-19s went up against Italian side Empoli on Tuesday evening as they looked to book their place in the round of 16 of the UEFA Youth League. A thrilling contest ensued between two very talented teams, with the young Black and Yellows claiming a 5-3 win in the end.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Julian Rijkhoff, Bradley Fink and Lion Semic were all on target for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s as they came from behind to see off the challenge of Empoli.
Mike Tullberg’s side made an impressive start to the game and opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who scored his seventh goal of the season in just his seventh appearance. But Dortmund’s lead was short lived, as Empoli equalised just one minute later through Luca Magazzu.
Magazzu then turned the game on its head by giving Empoli the lead in the 28th minute. But an own goal from Leonardo Pezzola helped the BVB U-19s go into the break on level terms.
The Borussia Dortmund U-19s then took control of the game in the second half thanks to quick-fire goals from Julian Rijkhoff and Bradley Fink. Lion Semic then added a fifth 13 minutes from time, before Filippo Panicucci scored a consolation goal for Empoli late on.
It was a well deserved win in the end for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s, who did really well to come from behind and take control of the game in the second half.
