Report: Borussia Dortmund have no plans to sign Marin Pongracic on a permanent transfer
Borussia Dortmund will not be taking up the option to sign defender Marin Pongracic on a permanent transfer from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer.
There has been a lot of speculation about Borussia Dortmund’s plans for the summer transfer window in recent days. Following the arrival of Niklas Süle, we could see plenty of changes in the Dortmund defence next season. One player who appears set to leave in the summer is Marin Pongracic.
The 24 year old joined Borussia Dortmund from VfL Wolfsburg on a season long loan deal on transfer deadline day in the summer. But he has not been able to make much of an impression so far, and finds himself behind Mats Hummels, Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou in the pecking order for centre-backs.
Borussia Dortmund have the option to sign Pongracic permanently in the summer for a fee of nine million euros. But according to Kicker, the possibility of the Black and Yellows taking up that option is out of the question at the moment. The magazine adds that the highly rated Soumaila Coulibaly will likely replace Pongracic in the first-team next season.
A return to Wolfsburg looms large for Pongracic. But the former RB Salzburg defender does not have much of a future there either following the comments he made about his time at the club in November.
Pongracic has made a total of 16 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since joining the club in the summer. His last start came in the 3-2 defeat to Hertha BSC in December.
