Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann has admitted that he will be sad to see the Borussia Dortmund-bound Niklas Süle leave the club next season.
Niklas Süle is set to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Bayern Munich at the end of the season in what will no doubt be one of the most stunning deals of the summer transfer window. The German international has been a crucial player in the Bayern defence over the years. And Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann has admitted that he is sad about Süle’s impending departure.
During his pre-match press conference ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash against VfL Bochum, Nagelsmann said:
"“I don’t judge it (Süle’s decision to join Borussia Dortmund) at all because it’s not my decision, it’s not my life. Of course, I’m sad that he won’t be here next season because I’ve been with him for a long time. I would have liked to continue working with him. It is a normal process in football, that players leave on a free transfer.”“Nevertheless, Niklas is still our player until June 30 and we expect that he will give it his all till then.”"
Süle’s decision to make the move to Borussia Dortmund certainly caught Bayern Munich by surprise. Bayern president Herbert Hainer claimed earlier this week that the 26 year old’s decision to move to Dortmund is a step down in sporting terms. While some angered Bayern fans have also called for the former TSG Hoffenheim defender to not be used in the starting XI anymore.
But Nagelsmann confirmed on Friday that he will keep selecting Süle in his side, and added that he expects him to give everything on the pitch for Bayern Munich from now until the end of the season as they look to compete in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
"“As a coach, I evaluate the performance of the players regardless of any contract details. That’s why the question for me is which team is best suited to the upcoming opponent.”"
Süle has made 26 appearances for Bayern Munich so far this season, with 19 of them coming in the Bundesliga. He will join Borussia Dortmund on a four year contract in the summer.
