Manchester United head coach Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he tried to convince Jadon Sancho to join RB Leipzig before the winger joined Borussia Dortmund.

Jadon Sancho developed into one of the world’s best young wingers during his time at Borussia Dortmund. The England international enjoyed a memorable four year stay in Germany before joining Manchester United last summer. And Ralf Rangnick, who is now the interim head coach at Manchester United, has admitted that he tried to sign Sancho when he was in charge of RB Leipzig.

"“I’ve known Jadon since he was 17 when he still played in England,” Rangnick said. “I contacted him and his agent when he was 17 and tried to convince him to join us at Leipzig. In the end he decided to go to Dortmund and had a great time there. He became one of the best wingers in the whole league, if not in Europe.”"

Sancho, of course, turned down a move to RB Leipzig and decided to join Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City at the age of 17. He broke into the first-team before long, and quickly developed into one of the most exciting young players in the world. He made a total of 137 appearances for the Black and Yellows, and scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists.

Sancho left Borussia Dortmund to join Manchester United last summer for a fee of 85 million euros. After a slow start to life in England, the 21 year old is finally starting to show his quality on a more consistent basis.

Sancho scored his fourth goal of the season for Manchester United on Saturday during their 1-1 draw against Southampton. He has been one of their standout performers in recent weeks, and has two goals in his last three appearances.

Rangnick also believes that Sancho’s qualities fit perfectly with Manchester United’s style of play, and he is confident that the winger will make an even bigger impact in the coming weeks.
