Joe Scally is looking forward to battling it out against his best friend Gio Reyna during Sunday’s clash between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach will face off in the ‘Battle of the Borussias’ this weekend. The game will be a special one for Joe Scally and Gio Reyna, who have known each other for many years now.

The 19 year old duo have been making plenty of waves in the Bundesliga, with Gio Reyna already a regular starter at Borussia Dortmund and Joe Scally enjoying an impressive breakthrough campaign with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Joe Scally feels that Sunday’s clash between Borussia Dortmund and Gladbach will be a special occasion for the duo, and they have already made plans to swap shirts after the game. In a media round ahead of the game, Scally said:

"“We’ve known each other since we were about 12 years old. Six years straight we’ve basically been best friends, so we go way back.”“We missed out that first time back in October, to fight against each other. But we’ve been talking about it now for basically a year, since I came over to Germany.”“We’re ready for the jersey change after the game and everything. He was at my house two days ago, so we were just talking about it. It’s going to be a really great game and really good to see each other on the field.”"

Sunday’s game will see Scally and Reyna go up against each other on the pitch for the first time, as the latter missed the reverse fixture in October due to a hamstring injury. The injury saw Reyna spend five months on the sidelines. And Scally is backing his United States compatriot to bounce back quickly and be better than ever in the coming months.

"“I felt terrible for him, it’s really tough to be out for so long. But we all knew he’d bounce back. He’s a great player. We all saw his first month, he was up for Player of the Month, so I have no doubt that next month, he’s going to be back to doing the exact same thing and better.”"
