Borussia Dortmund set to sign Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Marcel Lotka
Young goalkeeper Marcel Lotka is set to seal a move to Borussia Dortmund, just days after making his Bundesliga debut for Hertha Berlin.
Borussia Dortmund are set to complete the signing of Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Marcel Lotka, according to multiple reports in Germany. The 20 year old made his Bundesliga debut this past weekend in the game against SC Freiburg. And it appears that he will soon be moving to Dortmund.
Lotka’s contract with Hertha is set to expire at the end of the season. And according to Kicker, he will join Borussia Dortmund on a two year contract in the summer. The magazine adds that the plan is for him to play for the BVB U-23s starting from next season. He will reportedly replace Stefan Drljaca, who will be out of contract in the summer.
Luca Unbehaun, who recently signed a one-year contract extension with Borussia Dortmund, is currently the first-choice goalkeeper for the U-23s. Enrico Maaßen’s side play in the 3. Liga, the third division of German football.
Lotka, who joined Hertha Berlin from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, has been playing for the club’s second team in the Regionalliga Nordost this season. He is normally the first-team’s fifth choice goalkeeper.
But Alexander Schwolow’s absence prompted Hertha to give Lotka his maiden opportunity in the first-team on Saturday. And he managed to make a strong impression even though Hertha BSC suffered a 3-0 defeat to SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Lotka is also a youth international for Poland and made his U-21s debut last year.
