Borussia Dortmund injury update: Erling Haaland set to miss Mainz clash; Marco Reus should return
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will once again be without Erling Haaland for Sunday’s trip to Mainz. But Marco Reus is expected to return to the squad.
Erling Haaland has been sidelined for more than a month now, having suffered a muscle injury during Borussia Dortmund’s clash against TSG Hoffenheim in January. His injury is proving to be more serious than first thought. And he is set to miss this weekend’s game against Mainz 05.
This is being reported by Ruhr Nachrichten, who add that Haaland is also unlikely to be fit in time for the Bundesliga clash against Arminia Bielefeld on March 13. Head coach Marco Rose said last week that the Norwegian international is still not feeling fully comfortable with his movement. Haaland has missed each of Borussia Dortmund’s last six games.
There is some good news for Borussia Dortmund though, as Marco Reus has recovered from the knock he suffered in the second leg of the Europa League tie against Rangers. The BVB captain missed last weekend’s draw against FC Augsburg, but he is set to return to the squad for this weekend’s game. Reus has already returned to training.
Reus had been in excellent form before suffering his injury. So his potential return will be crucial to Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of getting the three points against Mainz on Sunday.
Manuel Akanji has also returned to individual training. But it will take him some time to return to full fitness, and this weekend’s trip to Mainz will come too soon for him.
