Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko will be out of action for a few weeks after suffering a torn muscle fibre in his thigh.

Borussia Dortmund’s injury woes are showing no signs of slowing down. The Black and Yellows have announced that Youssoufa Moukoko suffered a torn muscle fibre in his thigh during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg and will now be sidelined for a few weeks. The club expect him to return to action before the end of March.

Moukoko’s injury is a big blow for Borussia Dortmund, who are already without top scorer Erling Haaland as well as attacking midfielder Gio Reyna.

The news will come as a big setback for Moukoko, who has been forced to deal with four big injuries over the last 12 months. The 17 year old suffered a foot ligament injury while on international duty with the Germany U-21s in March 2021. He then suffered muscle fibre tears in both October and December. And now he faces another spell on the sidelines.

Moukoko was just starting to get regular playing time in the first-team, and he also scored his first goal of the season in the 6-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last month. Moukoko has made 32 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, and has four goals and two assists to his name. He has made 17 first-team appearances so far this season.

With Haaland and Moukoko both sidelined due to injuries, Borussia Dortmund are a little light in terms of attacking firepower. But Marco Reus looks set to return to the squad for this weekend’s trip to Mainz 05.
