Report: April 30 deadline for Erling Haaland release clause to be activated
By Tushar Bahl
The deadline for interested clubs to activate Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland’s release clause is said to be April 30.
Rumours about Erling Haaland’s future have been dominating headlines over the past few months. Real Madrid and Manchester City are said to be leading the race for the highly coveted striker, while FC Barcelona are also said to be interested.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said last month that he expects Haaland’s future to be resolved within the next six weeks. And SportBILD now claim that there is an April 30 deadline for the release clause in the 21 year old’s contract to be activated. According to the magazine, Haaland must also submit a written statement confirming his intention to activate the release clause before the April 30 deadline.
Haaland is said to have a release clause of 75 million euros in his Borussia Dortmund contract. The BVB bosses had previously said that they would like to keep Haaland at the club for at least another season. But WAZ now report that they expect the striker to leave in the summer and are already preparing for his departure.
Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg for a fee of 20 million euros in January 2020 and has scored 80 goals in just 80 appearances for the club.
The Norwegian international still has more than two years left on his BVB contract. But it is looking more and more likely that one of Manchester City and Real Madrid will activate that release clause in the coming weeks, with the English Premier League champions reportedly ahead in the race.
