Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt has been called up by Germany for their upcoming friendlies as a replacement for Serge Gnabry.

Julian Brandt is back in the Germany squad after being called up as a replacement for Serge Gnabry. The Bayern Munich winger was forced to pull out of the squad due to cold-like symptoms, but has tested negative for Covid-19.

Brandt has been called up by head coach Hansi Flick for Germany’s upcoming friendlies against Israel and the Netherlands. The Borussia Dortmund playmaker has found himself in and out of the Germany squad in recent months, and he will be looking to use the next week and a half to make an impression ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup. His last start for Germany came all the way back in November 2020.

Brandt is also going through a bit of a rough patch at Borussia Dortmund. He hasn’t scored or assisted a goal since early February, and recently lost his spot in the starting XI. It has also been reported in recent weeks that he could be sold in the summer transfer window.

The 25 year old has five goals and nine assists in 33 appearances so far this season. He has won 36 caps for the German national team, and has three goals and three assists to his name.
