Recent speculation has indicated that Thorgan Hazard may be looking to leave Borussia Dortmund, however the Belgian International has denied such rumors.

According to reports in recent weeks, Thorgan Hazard was said to be in the market for a new club come this summer, with the Belgian international allegedly garnering interest from multiple clubs, including Atlético Madrid. The Borussia Dortmund winger has however come out and dismissed speculation surrounding his future.

"“Those reports are false. I don’t know why I should leave, I’m at a top club that plays in the Champions League and where I play regularly. Then it is normal that there is competition. Moreover, I had a lot of injuries. At the moment it is not in my mind to look for other places.”"

Thorgan Hazard has indeed been far from a consistent fixture in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI this season. The Belgian international has had to contend with injury issues that have kept him sidelined for extended stints over the course of his time in black and yellow. He has also had to contend with being dropped by Marco Rose from the squad earlier this season, which also fueled speculation that Hazard was unsettled with the amount of game-time he was being allotted.

Hazard’s comments suggest that this is not the case however. These comments are more reflective of the attitude that Hazard has shown at Dortmund when fully fit and on form; a tenacious player who works hard for his side.

Of course, his impact this season has been quite limited, but it would seem that Hazard is determined to fight for a place in this Borussia Dortmund side, which is indicative of the type of mentality the team will need moving forward, particularly when it comes to the rebuild this summer.

Borussia Dortmund also don’t have a wealth of talent in Hazard’s position. Even in the event that players are brought in or promoted from the youth system, Hazard would still have a role to play with the club and likely receive satisfactory minutes, especially because of his flexibility to play on the wing or as a wingback.

Hazard’s comments and stance towards the rumors come as a welcome bit of news, particularly because it shows that there are players within the squad that while they haven’t had the impact perhaps they would have hoped so far, they still see the club as a place for them to thrive and fight for a position.

Hazard’s comments also indicate that he himself understands that there is a need for improvement on his end both in terms of fitness and output. When on form, it is clear that Hazard has the talent to be an important player for Dortmund, and perhaps some healthy competition is just what he needs to get back to his very best.
