Emre Can has said that nobody at Borussia Dortmund knows why the team has been forced to deal with so many muscle injuries over the course of this season.

Borussia Dortmund have been hit by a raft of injuries this season, with several players having to spend significant time on the sidelines. The Black and Yellows have had to deal with one injury crisis after another, and Marco Rose has only been able to select his best XI on a handful of occasions.

Emre Can was asked about Borussia Dortmund’s spate of injuries following the 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart on Friday. And the midfielder was at a loss to explain why they have been forced to deal with so many muscle injuries this season. When asked about BVB’s injury problems during an interview with ESPN+, Can said:

"“I think nobody knows at the club, or nobody knows from where these (muscle injuries) are coming. Of course, we train well. Other teams train well too. But I think it’s not just one thing where you can say, ‘okay, that’s why we have so many muscle injuries.’ But of course, we know that this year we have had too many (muscle injuries).”"

Borussia Dortmund’s rotten injury luck continued on Friday evening as four players were forced to go off after picking up injuries against Stuttgart. Gio Reyna picked up a hamstring injury less than two minutes into the game, and had to leave the pitch in tears.

Mahmoud Dahoud then suffered a shoulder injury and had to be replaced by Axel Witsel. Mats Hummels was subbed off at half time due to a hamstring issue, and Raphael Guerreiro was also forced off in the second half.

Borussia Dortmund also had to make do without a number of players on Friday, including Donyell Malen (muscular problems), Thomas Meunier (thigh), Steffen Tigges (broken ankle), Mateu Morey (knee), Nico Schulz and Felix Passlack (muscle injuries).
