Emre Can responds to transfer speculation about his Borussia Dortmund future

Emre Can has said that the Borussia Dortmund players are paying no attention to the speculation linking them with moves away from the club.

It has been widely reported in recent weeks that Borussia Dortmund are planning to overhaul their squad in the summer transfer window. A number of first-team regulars could be sold as part of this reported overhaul. But Emre Can has said that the BVB players are not paying any attention to these rumours.

"In an interview with Viaplay Norway, Can said about all the speculation:“I think we don’t care about that (the speculation). The newspapers can write what they want. I don’t know if it is right or not.”"

Emre Can is one of the players being linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, with reports claiming that he could be sold in the summer if the club receives a suitable offer. But the 28 year old has shrugged off the speculation about his future, branding it as fake news.

"“I read today that they want to sell me but I play 90 minutes in every game. They say I’ve made mistakes this season. It’s not the truth. I have made one mistake this season. It was last week. And for me that’s fake news.”"

Can, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Juventus on an initial loan deal in January 2020, has become a polarising figure among the supporters in recent months. The German international has shown his quality on a fair few occasions, but his lack of consistency has left fans frustrated. Can has also made a number of sloppy errors in recent months. And some of those errors have proven to be very costly for the Black and Yellows.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Can, who has more than two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract. Can has made 24 appearances for Marco Rose’s side so far this season. He has been asked to fill in at centre-back, right-back and even left-back due to the team’s injury problems.
