Marco Rose was delighted with the atmosphere at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, and said that it should be Borussia Dortmund’s aim now to turn their stadium into a fortress.

Borussia Dortmund delivered one of their best performances of the season on Saturday, as they cruised to an emphatic 6-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows scored five goals in a blistering 14-minute spell in the first half, before seeing out the impressive win in front of 79,000+ fans at the Westfalenstadion.

Marco Rose was pleased with his side’s performance, and said that they thoroughly deserved the three points. The Borussia Dortmund head coach also spoke about the atmosphere at the Westfalenstadion, and said that it must now be their goal to turn their home stadium into a fortress.

"“It should become like a drug for us, to always want to have this atmosphere and to make our stadium into a fortress with our supporters,” Rose said during his post-match press conference. “We made a real mess of the first party against Leipzig. Against Wolfsburg, it was great to have the fans with us and to see them go home so happy. That has to be our goal for the next few weeks.”"

Saturday’s game was only Borussia Dortmund’s second in front of a packed Westfalenstadion since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. They suffered a humiliating 4-1 loss to RB Leipzig two weeks ago in front of 81,000+ supporters at the Westfalenstadion.

And Emre Can said after the win over Wolfsburg that they needed to make it up to the fans on Saturday after letting them down two weeks ago.

"“Two weeks ago, with the stadium sold out for the first time in a long time, we let the fans down. We had something to make up for. And I think we did that very, very well (against Wolfsburg).”"

Borussia Dortmund’s record at home over the last two years has certainly not been the best. Some players even spoke about the lack of fans in the stadium as one of the reasons behind their struggles at home. And they will now be hoping to turn the Westfalenstadion into the impenetrable fortress it used to be starting from next season.
