Report: Manchester City set to trigger the release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract
By Tushar Bahl
Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Erling Haaland, and his move away from Borussia Dortmund could be sealed in the next week.
Erling Haaland appears set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, and it looks like he will be on his way to Manchester City. The Daily Mail in England are reporting that the Premier League giants have reached an agreement on personal terms with the striker’s representatives. And they are now expected to trigger the exit clause in his contract.
The tabloid claims that the move could even be sealed in the next week or so. If the transfer goes through, Haaland would become the highest paid player in the English Premier League. Manchester City are reportedly offering him a salary in excess of 500,000 pounds per week.
Borussia Dortmund were hoping to keep Haaland at the club for at least another season, and they were even willing to double his salary. But there is no way that they could have competed with Manchester City’s financial power.
Haaland has a release clause of 75 million euros in his Borussia Dortmund contract. Incoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed at the weekend that there is a deadline that interested clubs must meet if they want to sign him. He added that the Black and Yellows want the 21 year old’s future to be sorted as soon as possible.
It looks like Haaland’s time at Borussia Dortmund will come to an end this summer. The striker has scored 82 goals in 85 appearances since joining BVB from RB Salzburg for 20 million euros in January 2020.
