Marco Rose left annoyed as Borussia Dortmund are denied penalty in Bayern Munich defeat

Marco Rose was left frustrated by controversial refereeing decisions once again on Saturday evening as Borussia Dortmund fell to a 3-1 defeat to Bayern.
Borussia Dortmund suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening, allowing the Bavarians to clinch their tenth successive Bundesliga title. The game wasn’t without controversy though, as Marco Rose’s side were denied what looked like a clear penalty in the second half when Jude Bellingham was brought down inside the box by Benjamin Pavard.
Despite appeals from the Borussia Dortmund players, referee Daniel Siebert decided against giving a penalty. While a short VAR check did take place at the next stoppage in play, the referee was not asked to go to the pitch-side monitor and take a second look at the incident.
Replays clearly showed that Pavard fouled Bellingham before getting to the ball. The scoreline was 2-1 in Bayern’s favour at the time of the incident. And had Borussia Dortmund been awarded a penalty there, it could have completely changed the complexion of the game.
Marco Rose was left annoyed by the referee’s decision. During his post-match interview with Sky Sport, the Borussia Dortmund head coach said:
"“It’s an absolute top game, there’s a lot at stake, so I just expect things to be settled fairly. From what I was told, we should have had a penalty. I’m a coach and I’m standing on the touchline 50 meters away. There are a few people who probably could have looked at it. It’s nothing new for us.”"
There was plenty of refereeing controversy in the reverse fixture as well, as Borussia Dortmund were denied a penalty by referee Felix Zwayer after Marco Reus was brought down inside the box by Lucas Hernandez. Bayern were then awarded a rather dubious penalty that helped them seal the 3-2 win.
Jude Bellingham was even handed a €40,000 fine for his post-match comments on referee Felix Zwayer.
