Marco Rose admits Borussia Dortmund’s season has been less than satisfactory
Marco Rose admitted that Borussia Dortmund’s season has been less than satisfactory after Bayern Munich clinched their tenth successive Bundesliga title on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund’s season has certainly not gone to plan, even though they have already met the minimum goal of finishing in the top four in the Bundesliga standings. Marco Rose admitted after his side’s 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday that the season so far has been less than satisfactory.
"“We got knocked out of the cup, out of the Champions League, the spectators were only able to join in late – all in all, this has been a less than satisfactory season for us,” Rose told Sky Sport."
Borussia Dortmund only need two more points from their remaining three games to secure a second place finish in the Bundesliga. But their title challenge never really materialised despite a strong start to the season. The Black and Yellows also suffered early eliminations in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the DFB-Pokal.
Marco Rose also said that if Borussia Dortmund had made fewer individual mistakes over the course of the season, they might have still been in the title race going into the game against Bayern.
"“The fact is: if we had made fewer mistakes, we would have conceded fewer goals and may have gotten more points. Then we might have come here and actually been within striking distance.”"
Marco Reus: Consistency is what set Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund apart
Marco Reus also spoke after the game, and felt that consistency made the difference this season as Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title ahead of Borussia Dortmund. The BVB captain added that they suffered too many unnecessary defeats this season, and weren’t good enough in some of the matches.
"“When you have eight defeats in the Bundesliga, that’s too many. We were not good enough, that must be said quite clearly. The difference (on Saturday) was that Bayern were more consistent. Throughout the season, it’s consistency that set the two teams apart.”"
Borussia Dortmund still have three more games to play in the Bundesliga this season, but there is not a whole lot left to play for. BVB will be aiming to come back stronger next season and give Bayern Munich more of a fight in the title race.
