Marco Rose praised Jamie Bynoe-Gittens after the highly rated winger impressed on his first competitive start for the Borussia Dortmund first-team.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens enjoyed a memorable full Borussia Dortmund debut on Saturday, as he made a big impact and also played a crucial role in setting up Erling Haaland’s third goal. The 17 year old caused the Bochum defenders all sorts of problems, and the Black and Yellows struggled going forward after he was substituted in the 64th minute.

Borussia Dortmund head coach Marco Rose heaped praise on Bynoe-Gittens after the game, and said that the winger brings something to the team that they have been missing all season long.

"“He played well and justified his selection. Jamie is a great talent who has had a few injury problems. That’s why we brought him up through the U19s.”“He gives us something we are lacking, something that we don’t have in our squad. He still has to get used to the pace of the Bundesliga. Still, he did really well and it was a very good game.”"

Bynoe-Gittens is considered to be one of the most exciting young players at Borussia Dortmund. He has been in excellent form for the BVB U-19s this season, and has ten goals and three assists to his name in just 14 appearances for them.

The winger has also shown glimpses of his quality in his three first-team appearances so far. And a permanent spot in the first-team awaits the England U-18s international next season.

Bynoe-Gittens said after Borussia Dortmund’s 3-4 defeat to VfL Bochum that he is thrilled to be a part of the first-team squad.

"“At first it was a big surprise to me because coming from Reading – a small town – not really many people play football. So yeah, just crazy to be a part of this team.”"

Bynoe-Gittens, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020, has drawn comparisons with Jadon Sancho. And he will now be aiming to follow in the footsteps of the 22 year old who established himself as one of the best wingers in the world at BVB before joining Manchester United.
