Sebastian Kehl was left frustrated by Borussia Dortmund’s performance during their defeat to VfL Bochum on Saturday, and said that the criticism from the supporters is justified.

Borussia Dortmund suffered their second defeat in a row on Saturday as they were beaten 3-4 by VfL Bochum. The Black and Yellows conceded two goals in four minutes, allowing Bochum to come from behind and claim a memorable win in the Ruhr derby.

The fans at the stadium made their feelings clear and booed the Borussia Dortmund players after the final whistle.

And Sebastian Kehl feels that the criticism the players received from the supporters was justified. The BVB head of players department and future sporting director said on Sunday that the players weren’t consistent enough both defensively and going forward over the course of the 90 minutes.

"In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, Kehl said:“There have now been three home games in front of a sell-out crowd. We have lost two of them, against Leipzig and Bochum. So we have to accept and endure such a reaction from the fans. The reaction is justified – and we’re talking about a derby. There is only one derby this season. Especially in a game like this, our fans can expect us to be at 100 percent. And we weren’t.”"

Borussia Dortmund made a slow start to the game and fell two goals behind inside the opening ten minutes. Marco Rose’s side managed to come from two goals down and take the lead in the second half. But they imploded late on and conceded two quick goals, allowing Bochum to claim a stunning a 3-4 win.

"“We did well to come from behind, had strong phases and created enough chances to clinch the game for us,” Kehl said. “The fact that we then go on to lose it, that’s just really poor.”"

Borussia Dortmund now have two more games left to play this season. They face the already relegated Greuther Fürth away from home next weekend, before hosting Hertha BSC on the final matchday of the campaign. It has certainly not been a season to remember for BVB. But the hope will be that the players can step up and end the season on a high.
