Sebastian Kehl believes that Borussia Dortmund will have clarity on the future of Manchester City target Erling Haaland by next week.
Erling Haaland is being heavily linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, and it looks like his future is close to being resolved. Sebastian Kehl was a guest on the Sport1-Doppelpass on Sunday, and revealed that he expects there to be clarity on the striker’s future in the next week.
"“I know what is in the contract, we are bound by the exit clause,” Kehl said. “We have tried in the last few months to reach a decision on Erling’s future. But then came the death of Mino Raiola. Unfortunately, the issue has dragged on a bit. But I think we will have clarity in the next week.”"
Manchester City are reportedly leading the race for Haaland, who has a release clause in his contract. The 21 year old can leave Dortmund for a fee in the region of 75 million euros. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are also said to be interested in signing the Norwegian international, but Manchester appears to his likeliest destination.
Kehl also added that he wouldn’t be surprised if Haaland leaves Borussia Dortmund in the summer. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he moves on in the end.”
Borussia Dortmund are already looking at potential replacements for Haaland, with Adam Hložek, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Šeško reportedly on their list of targets.
The Black and Yellows are also set to complete the signing of Karim Adeyemi. And Sebastian Kehl confirmed on Sunday that he expects them to make progress on the German international’s signature in the next week. “I believe that we will make progress with Karim in the next week,” Kehl added.
Borussia Dortmund have already made quite a splash in the transfer market with the signings of Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck. And the next few weeks will no doubt be crucial as Sebastian Kehl and co. look to further strengthen the BVB squad ahead of the new season.
