After spending more than one year on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury, Borussia Dortmund right-back Mateu Morey finally made his return to training on Tuesday.

Mateu Morey took the next step in his road to recovery on Tuesday, as he took part in parts of team training for the first time in more than one year. The highly rated right-back injured his lateral collateral, capsular and anterior cruciate ligaments in May 2021 during Borussia Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal clash against Holstein Kiel and had to undergo multiple surgeries.

And after months of intensive rehab, Morey finally made his long-awaited return to team training on Tuesday. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the Borussia Dortmund players greeted the right-back with a round of applause before the training session.

Morey’s absence has been heavily felt on the pitch this season, and his return to training is excellent news for both the club and the player.

Morey, who joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from FC Barcelona in 2019, has made a total of 29 appearances for the Black and Yellows. The 22 year old was starting to really make his mark on the first-team before suffering his injury.

The hope will be that Morey can now continue his progress in the coming weeks and be ready for action in time for pre-season.

In addition to Mateu Morey, Thomas Meunier and Gregor Kobel also returned to training on Tuesday. It remains to be seen if the duo will be able to feature in Borussia Dortmund’s game against Hertha BSC this weekend.
