Niklas Süle has responded to Julian Nagelsmann’s claims that the defender did not want to be included in Bayern Munich’s squad for their final game of the season.
Niklas Süle has been forced to deal with a lot of criticism from the Bayern Munich bosses and supporters in recent weeks. The harsh criticism of the defender continued last weekend, when Julian Nagelsmann claimed that he did not want to make the trip to Wolfsburg for Bayern’s final game of the season.
Now Süle, who is set to leave Bayern Munich and join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in the summer, has responded to the accusations. In an interview with SportBILD, the 26 year old said that the things said about him at the weekend were simply not true.
"“There were things said about me last weekend that simply were not true. Last Thursday, Julian Nagelsmann asked me if it would be okay if I wasn’t in the squad against Wolfsburg. He wanted to give priority to the young players who will be at Bayern next season. Therefore there was no place for me in the squad. I understood his decision and accepted it.”“Then on Friday, when Marcel Sabitzer got injured, one of our co-trainers told me shortly before we left that I could join the team if I wanted to. But it was also okay if I didn’t. That was the whole story.”“Before the championship celebration on Sunday, Julian Nagelsmann said in front of the entire team that I had done nothing wrong and that he was sorry for the criticism I was getting.”"
After Nagelsmann’s comments, Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß also hit out at Süle and labeled his behaviour “catastrophic.” This was not the first time someone from the Bavarian club has taken a shot at the defender since his move to Dortmund. Süle said that he felt a lack of appreciation from those in charge at Bayern, and that played a big role in his decision to leave the club.
"“Hansi Flick placed his trust in me as coach. But I didn’t feel that trust at all levels of the club. I realised that I lacked appreciation and wanted to do something new.”"
Niklas Süle will officially become a Borussia Dortmund player on July 01, and he is already looking forward to getting started. The defender has big goals that he wants to achieve with his new club. And he is convinced that the Black and Yellows have what it takes to overcome Bayern’s challenge and win the Bundesliga title next season.
