Ansgar Knauff named UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season
Borussia Dortmund loanee Ansgar Knauff has been named the UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season after helping Eintracht Frankfurt win the competition.
Ansgar Knauff has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January. And the Borussia Dortmund youngster has now been named the UEFA Europa League Young Player of the Season by UEFA’s Technical Observer panel.
Knauff played a vital role in Eintracht Frankfurt’s incredible UEFA Europa League triumph. The 20 year old played in all seven of their knockout stage fixtures at right wing-back, and scored vital goals against FC Barcelona in the quarterfinals and West Ham United in the semi-finals. He also assisted the Eagles’ winner in the second leg of their semi-final against West Ham.
Eintracht Frankfurt won the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday after beating Rangers in the final on penalties. It was their first European trophy in 42 years, and it also helped them book their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Knauff only joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a loan deal during the winter transfer window, but he has already established himself as a very important player for them. The Germany U-21s international found playing time hard to come by at Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season. But he has become a regular for Oliver Glasner’s side, and has made 19 appearances for them.
Knauff will also be spending next season with Eintracht Frankfurt. And Borussia Dortmund will no doubt be closely following his progress ahead of his return to the club in 2023.
