Robert Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi has claimed that Bayern Munich wanted to replace the Poland international with Erling Haaland this summer.

Speculation about Robert Lewandowski’s future has dominated headlines in recent weeks, with reports claiming that the striker wants to leave Bayern Munich and join FC Barcelona this summer. Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi has now confirmed that the 33 year old is looking to leave the Bundesliga champions.

"In an interview with BILD, Zahavi said:“For Robert, the matter is quite clear: he wants to leave FC Bayern this summer. He has felt disrespected by those responsible for months, that’s the truth…For Robert Lewandowski, Bayern is history.”"

Lewandowski is not the only Bayern Munich player who has felt a lack of appreciation in recent months. Niklas Süle, who will join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer, also said that he wasn’t appreciated enough by those in charge at Bayern.

Zahavi has also claimed that Bayern Munich were planning to replace Robert Lewandowski with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland before the Norwegian international decided to join Manchester City.

"“Robert is a very intelligent person, not just the best striker in the world. He knows exactly what is happening around him and what FC Bayern had planned. So Robert knew all along that Bayern wanted to replace him with Haaland. The football world is big, but there are no secrets.”"

The Bayern bosses publicly stated on numerous occasions that they could not afford a move for Haaland. But rumours continued to link Haaland with a move to Bavaria right until the very end. Despite Bayern’s interest, the 21 year old ultimately made the decision to join Manchester City.

The Black and Yellows are now looking for a new number nine to replace Haaland, with Ajax striker Sebastien Haller on top of their list of targets.
