Ansgar Knauff has said that he is looking forward to playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, adding that he is not thinking about his Borussia Dortmund future at the moment.
Ansgar Knauff has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the last five months. The 20 year old has gone from strength to strength since joining Eintracht Frankfurt, and recently helped the Eagles cap off their memorable season by winning the UEFA Europa League.
Knauff’s excellent performances for Eintracht Frankfurt have seen some Borussia Dortmund fans call for those in charge to bring him back to the club. But the Germany U-21s international, who still has 12 months left on his loan deal, is excited about the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League with the Eagles.
"“The way the fans got behind us was simply extraordinary, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Knauff said. “I’m so happy we were able to pay them back for their incredible support by winning the Europa League. I am really looking forward to playing in the Champions League with Eintracht Frankfurt next year in front of these fans.”"
Borussia Dortmund are closely monitoring Knauff’s progress, and the wide player has also revealed that Edin Terzic called him to congratulate him following Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph. But he is not thinking about what his future might look like beyond the end of next season.
"“He (Edin Terzic) called me after the Europa League win and congratulated me, which made me very happy. We are in good contact,” Knauff said.“I am on an 18-month loan deal as agreed and I will play next season in Frankfurt, nothing has changed. After that, I still have a one-year contract in Dortmund. I’m not thinking about anything else at the moment.”"
Knauff made 19 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt in the recently concluded season, establishing himself as a regular starter for them at right wing-back. He scored three goals, including crucial strikes against FC Barcelona and West Ham United in the UEFA Europa League.
And on the back of his impressive performances, Knauff was also named the Europa League’s Young Player of the Season by UEFA’s technical panel.
Ansgar Knauff still has two years left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.
