Borussia Dortmund to face TSV 1860 München in the first round of the DFB-Pokal
Borussia Dortmund will go up against third division side TSV 1860 München in the first round of the 2022/23 DFB-Pokal.
The Edin Terzic era at Borussia Dortmund will kick-off against TSV 1860 München, with Borussia Dortmund set to face the 3. Liga side in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. We could be in for a fascinating contest at the Grünwalder Stadion between two traditional clubs. The tie will take place between 29 July and 01 August.
TSV 1860 München finished fourth in the 3. Liga standings in the recently concluded season, narrowly missing out on promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. Die Löwen are more than capable of pulling off an upset, and Borussia Dortmund will want to make sure that they do not take their opponents lightly.
Borussia Dortmund and TSV 1860 München have met 46 times over the years, and BVB have 23 and lost 14 of those games.
The last time these two sides met was back in the 2013/14 season in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. 1860 München managed to frustrate Dortmund for 90 minutes, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored in extra time to seal a 2-0 win.
Borussia Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal under Edin Terzic during the 2020/21 season, but were eliminated in the third round by FC St. Pauli in the recently concluded season. The Black and Yellows will no doubt be determined to make the trip to Berlin for the DFB-Pokal final next season.
As always, the draw for the first round of the DFB-Pokal set up some fascinating David vs Goliath ties. RB Leipzig will begin their title defence away to Regionalliga side FC Teutonia Ottensen, while Bayern Munich will go up against FC Viktoria Köln. Bayer Leverkusen face a tricky tie against SV Elversberg, and Borussia Mönchengladbach will take on Oberliga side SV Oberachern.
