Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Borussia Dortmund’s transfer business is more than 50% done, but they are still planning to bring in a new striker.

Borussia Dortmund have already been very active in the transfer market this summer, bolstering their squad in a number of key positions. And Hans-Joachim Watzke has now confirmed that they are also looking to bring in a new striker. Following Erling Haaland’s departure to Manchester City, the Black and Yellows want to bring in a new natural number nine.

"“I see our work as more than 50 percent complete,” Watzke said during a media round. “On the number nine position, it’s quite clear. We have to find a solution there. We are in the process of sounding out alternatives, we have two, three really good ideas.”"

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a number of strikers in recent weeks, but three names appear to be on their list of targets. Ajax striker Sebastien Haller is said to be BVB’s top target, and a move for him would cost around 35 million euros.

Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on VfB Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic and Stade Reims’ Hugo Ekitike, as they look to bring in a natural goalscorer who can lead the attack next season.

Watzke has also said that Borussia Dortmund wanted to add more players from the Germany national team to their squad this summer. The BVB CEO also feels that with the squad undergoing a big overhaul this summer, they must adopt a patient approach and give new head coach Edin Terzic time.

"“We felt that we needed to have more German national team players again. I had already said that to Hansi Flick. But it’s more about building a new hierarchy. With German international players, it’s a bit easier, because perhaps they recognise the need a bit more and don’t have to assimilate first.”“It was the time for big change, but we must not talk our way into euphoria. We have to give everyone time. Half the team is new and we have a new coach in Edin Terzic. It won’t just come together overnight.”"

Borussia Dortmund have already completed the signings of Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi, Salih Özcan, Alexander Meyer, Jayden Braaf and Marcel Lotka this summer. More new signings are set to follow, but Dortmund will likely need to sell some players first.
