Borussia Dortmund will pay Marco Rose a severance in the mid seven figure range after making the decision to part ways with him last month.

Borussia Dortmund made the shock decision to part ways with Marco Rose last month after an end of season analysis meeting between those in charge. Now the Black and Yellows have revealed in an ad-hoc announcement that the two parties have reached an agreement in principle on the financial terms of the severance package that the 45 year old will receive.

The contracts of Marco Rose, and his assistant coaches Alexander Zickler, René Maric, as well as athletic trainer Patrick Eibenberger were originally valid until 2024. But since Borussia Dortmund decided to terminate their contracts earlier, they will receive a one-off payment in the mid seven figure range (around five million euros).

As a result, Borussia Dortmund are now forecasting a consolidated net loss in the region of 25-29 million euros for the 2021/22 financial year.

Borussia Dortmund paid a fee of five million euros to Borussia Mönchengladbach to appoint Marco Rose as their head coach in 2021. But the BVB bosses decided to part ways with him on the back of an underwhelming 2021/22 season.

Marco Rose will be succeeded as head coach by the man he replaced last summer. Edin Terzic has been appointed Borussia Dortmund head coach on a three year contract. And the hope will be that his appointment can spark a change in fortunes at the club, just like it did when he became interim head coach in December 2020.
