Borussia Dortmund U-23s defender Antonios Papadopoulos is attracting interest from England, with two second division sides reportedly keen on signing him.

Antonios Papadopoulos could be about to leave Borussia Dortmund just one year after his arrival to the club, with BILD claiming that he has received offers from Luton Town and Preston North End. Both teams play in the EFL Championship (the second division of English football).

Papadopoulos was previously linked with a move to 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf, but nothing materialised in the end. Now he could be in line for a move to England.

Papadopoulos still has one year left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund. And BILD add that the transfer fee for him would be around 1.5 million euros. The defender’s physical and aggressive style of play would certainly make him well suited to the EFL Championship.

The 22 year old only joined Borussia Dortmund last summer from Hallescher FC. He was originally signed for the U-23s team, but began the season in the first-team due to Dortmund’s injury crisis. He made a good impression on Marco Rose during pre-season and was rewarded with a place in the starting XI for BVB’s DFB-Pokal first round tie against Wehen Wiesbaden.

Antonios Papadopoulos went on to make three first-team appearances this season, and was also on the bench on a number of occasions. Most of his appearances came for the U-23s in the 3. Liga. And he played a crucial role in helping Enrico Maaßen’s side secure a ninth place finish in the third division standings.
