Borussia Dortmund II head coach Enrico Maaßen is increasingly likely to take over at Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.

FC Augsburg are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Markus Weinzierl at the end of the season. Borussia Dortmund II head coach Enrico Maaßen has been heavily linked with the Augsburg job in recent weeks. And Sky Sport claim that he is now set to take over at the Bavarian club.

According to Sky, only some details are left to be resolved before the appointment of Maaßen can be confirmed. While BILD claim that Augbsurg’s search for a new head coach is on the home stretch, with Maaßen the favourite to take over.

It remains to be seen just how much truth there is to this rumour. Maaßen and team manager Ingo Preuß have both said in recent weeks that BVB II are planning to go into the new season with the 38 year old as head coach.

Enrico Maaßen is considered to be one of the best young coaches in Germany, so it’s not a surprise that Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs are interested in appointing him. He was also linked with the Arminia Bielefeld and Greuther Fürth jobs last month.

dark. Next. Should Borussia Dortmund look to replace Raphael Guerreiro with David Raum?

Maaßen has done an excellent job with Borussia Dortmund II since taking over as head coach in 2020. He guided the BVB U-23s to the Regionalliga West title in his first season in charge. And they managed to secure a respectable ninth place finish in the 3. Liga standings in the recently concluded season.
